I work with individuals, families, couples, and parents who are co-parenting (divorced families). I enjoy working with our youth (ages 7-12), teens and young adults, and older adults.

Treatment areas: Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, anger management, educational/ behavioral concerns, couples counseling, and co-parenting conflict.

To better assist each of my clients in meeting their specific goals I utilize motivational interviewing, supportive counseling, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I am currently training for several other modalities and look forward to utilizing these soon.

I’m often described as bubbly, energetic, and kind. When I’m not working, I am spending time with my family, being outdoors, and planning my next beach vacation.

Heidi Compton, MSW, LCSW

Heidi

Heidi Compton comes to Healing Haus Counseling with many years of experience in the mental health and social work fields, beginning her career in 1997, when she obtained her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois.  She chose the mental health field after she took psychology in high school, and discovered that it was the first subject she felt passionately interested in. That intense curiosity and eagerness to learn about how to help people improve their mental health has remained throughout her years of practice. Heidi is described by peers and past clients as naturally easy to talk to, genuine, encouraging and a gentle, compassionate spirit.

Heidi’s experience includes clients of all ages from 5 to 80+.  While she employs many evidenced-based therapeutic techniques, depending on which suits each client best, she believes the most important aspect of therapy is the trusting relationship between herself and clients.  She strives to create a warm, empathic environment in which her clients can relax and know that they are safe with her.  She is a social worker at heart and honors clients’ rights to self-determination and individuality.

Heidi’s specialties include anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationships, parenting and family issues, adolescent struggles, trauma recovery, domestic violence, and stress management.  She is always looking for opportunities to explore and learn about new techniques to help her clients.  She has experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques, Humanistic Therapy techniques, Motivational Interviewing, and Behavioral Therapy.

Heidi is a mom to 2 boys ages 14 and 18, and she is no stranger to the great rewards and struggles of parenting!  She also loves pets and currently has 3 cats.  In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her kids and friends, and can often be found outdoors in nature, where she feels most at peace.  She loves gardening, attending her children’s sporting and school events, traveling, walking in the woods in beautiful West Virginia, playing cards, listening to live music, painting, fostering homeless kittens and cats, and occasionally binge-watching a good series on tv.
